⚠️Six Course Meal with Bill Baird. He talks to us about some of his favourite records!

Bill Baird, the Texan songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is the epitome of quality independent music! The former frontman of Sound Team and Sunset, he has been steadily releasing solo material since 2006. Since 2018 he has been putting all his music out on his own record label, EBB Recordings! Last month he released the first single 'Trash Compactor', from his forthcoming album '∞ Infinite Eye ∞', available February 18th 2022!

We asked him about what's coming up in the near future:

"I just released 'Dead Man' last year and am releasing its companion album, '∞ Infinite Eye ∞' in February. I have another album in the can that I will likely self-release. We shall see. I recently formed a new band called Heavy Meddo, we released our first mixtape and I think it's pretty great. It is a combination of sample, post-punk and lo-fi indie pop. I am planning a trip to Iceland to record another record; I have been writing extensive articles for the San Antonio Current newspaper; I am planning a couple of large installation/multi-media pieces."

We speak to Bill below about favourite records and he chooses tracks for our February playlist!

Part 1:

1️⃣ An album you constantly listen to alone. One that is very close to your heart and you prefer to not listen to in the company of others, a record you feel speaks directly to you!

🎯 "Fred Neil - 'The Dolphins' is the song I would like played at my funeral. I can't really listen with other people around, I get overwhelmed with emotion. So I guess at my funeral I will be dead and.... that won't be a problem. Miles Davis - 'Blue In Green' is another that I find deeply deeply moving. There was a solid year of my life when the only music I listened to was 'Kind Of Blue.' It is a pinnacle of American culture."

2️⃣ An album from your hometown we need to hear.

🎯 "Butthole Surfers are the most interesting band to come out of my hometown of San Antonio, TX, by a good margin. Not just for their music but for their relentless boundary pushing, integration of multi-media and generally fucked up approach. Their 1st EP was one of Kurt Cobain's top 10 records of all time."

Selected track - Hey

3️⃣ A classic album, one that you put on when friends are over or when times are good! A staple in your life.

🎯 "Broadcast - 'Tender Buttons'. I just love this group so so much. This album is great, they strip back their sound to a gritty, gripping minimalism. Great vibes."

Selected track - America's Boy
